Earnings spotlight: Toll Brothers
Toll Brothers (TOL) will disclose its fiscal second-quarter earnings report after Tuesday's close. Analysts are generally upbeat toward the homebuilder ahead of earnings. Of the 19 analysts following the stock tracked by S&P Global Market Intelligence, eight say it's a Strong Buy, four have it at Buy, five call it a Hold and two have it at Sell. This works out to a consensus Buy recommendation.
Oppenheimer analyst Tyler Batory is one of those with a Buy rating on TOL, and he says the stock is a top pick among homebuilders. "The company is uniquely positioned given its shift towards spec homes as a larger percentage of closings," the analyst wrote in a recent note, which should drive volume growth through the next fiscal year.
Other positive catalysts for TOL include limited existing housing inventory and potentially lower mortgage rates, Batory adds.
As for TOL's fiscal Q2 results, analysts, on average, expect earnings to rise 45.3% year-over-year (YoY) to $4.14 per share, while revenue is forecast to be flat at $2.5 billion.

Earnings spotlight: Target
Target (TGT) will represent the retail sector on the earnings calendar Wednesday, with the company scheduled to release its first-quarter results ahead of the open.
Analysts, on average, expect the discount retailer's earnings to be flat on a year-over-year basis, at $2.05 per share. Revenue is forecast to arrive at $24.5 billion (-1.6% YoY).
Despite the lackluster growth expectations, UBS Global Research analyst Michael Lasser expects the earnings event to "be a positive catalyst" for Target stock. "While TGT was probably not immune to broad-based consumer challenges in Q1, we think it will show it made another step towards its long-term aspirations," the analyst says.
Lasser believes the results will show "early signs of stabilization" in discretionary items, which was likely helped by a revamp of Target's loyalty programs. Additionally, the retailer is benefiting from further progress on its cost-saving initiatives and an improvement in shrink.

Earnings spotlight: Nvidia
The release of Nvidia's (NVDA) first-quarter earnings report, slated for after Wednesday's close, is arguably the main market event of the week – both on and off the earnings calendar.
Indeed, NVDA helped set the tone for all things artificial intelligence (AI) roughly one year ago when it reported a 50% surge in revenue amid sizzling demand for its AI chips. The stock has generated impressive returns for shareholders – and the broader market – ever since, with Nvidia now one of the biggest companies by market cap ($2.3 trillion, at last check).
If Nvidia "can continue their enviable, remarkable string of beating estimates, raising guidance, then beating the raised guidance next quarter, that means that the AI trade can and will proceed apace," says Steve Sosnick, chief strategist at Interactive Brokers. "If there is even the slightest sign of weakness, however, much more than that stock alone will suffer."
Industry analysts are anticipating earnings of $5.57 per share vs its year-ago earnings of 98 cents per share. Revenue is expected to jump to $24.6 billion from the $6.5 billion it reported one year ago.
