Is the stock market open on Thanksgiving in 2025? The answer to this question is no. The stock market will be closed Thursday, November 27, for the Thanksgiving holiday. Bond traders will get the day off too, with bond markets also closed on Thursday.
And unlike some holidays, there are no early hours for bond traders ahead of Thanksgiving, as regular trading hours will be observed on Wednesday, November 26. However, both the stock and bond markets will close early on Black Friday, which falls on Friday, November 28, this year, at 1 pm and 2 pm Eastern time, respectively.
November has been a rough month for investors, sparked by concerns of a too-hot AI trade and a slowing economy. As of this writing, the Dow Jones Industrial Average is down 1.7% since the start of the month, while the S&P 500 is 1.9% lower and the Nasdaq Composite has shed 3.9%.

But David Laut, chief investment officer at Kerux Financial, isn't overly concerned. "Many of November's fears about AI and a cratering job market have ended up not coming to fruition, which suggests that we are seeing a traditional market pullback in recent weeks and not the start of a deeper correction," says Laut. And this pullback "paves the way for a market rebound and rally in December."
Given that valuations remain stretched even with this month's decline, Laut says he's been adding positions to value stocks in recent weeks "to limit valuation risk in the portfolio."
As for those wondering what time does the market open for regular trading hours, both the Nasdaq Stock Market and the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) run from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm Eastern time Monday through Friday.
Are banks open on Thanksgiving? The answer to that question is no. Thursday, November 27, is one of several bank holidays in 2025, and so banks will be closed.
