Still Paying $90 a Month for Wireless? Here's Why More People Are Switching to Visible
Visible runs on Verizon's network while charging a fraction of the monthly cost. Here's who could benefit from switching — and who might want to stick with a traditional carrier.
If you're looking for an easy way to lower monthly expenses, your wireless bill is a good place to start. Many people stay with the same carrier for years without realizing they could get similar service for much less by switching to a prepaid plan.
One option is Visible, Verizon's prepaid wireless brand that runs on Verizon's nationwide 5G and 4G LTE network. With annual plans starting at about $25 a month, Visible offers unlimited data at a fraction of the cost of many traditional carrier plans.
Switching isn't the right move for everyone, but if you're paying $90 or more each month for wireless service, comparing your current plan with Visible's latest offers could potentially save you hundreds of dollars a year.
What you get with Visible
One of Visible's biggest selling points is that it runs on Verizon's nationwide 5G and 4G LTE network, so you don't have to give up broad coverage to lower your phone bill. All plans include unlimited talk, text and data, with taxes and fees already built into the price.
The entry-level annual plan works out to about $25 a month ($23 if you choose to pay annually) and includes unlimited mobile hotspot usage, plus unlimited calling and texting to Mexico and Canada.
Higher-tier plans add faster premium data, quicker hotspot speeds, HD or 4K video streaming, international calling to more than 85 countries, and Global Pass travel days for use abroad.
Which Visible plan is right for you?
Visible offers three unlimited plans. The biggest differences come down to premium data, hotspot speeds and international features.
Plan | Monthly price | Annual price | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
$25/month | $275/year (about $23/month) | Budget-minded users who want unlimited talk, text, data and hotspot access. | |
$35/month | $375/year (about $31/month) | Heavy data users who want Verizon's fastest 5G Ultra Wideband speeds, faster hotspot data and roaming in Mexico and Canada. | |
$45/month | $450/year (about $38/month) | Frequent travelers and power users who want international calling, the fastest hotspot speeds, included smartwatch service and additional Global Pass days. |
All plans include taxes and fees, unlimited talk, text and data, and access to Verizon's nationwide 5G and 4G LTE network. Paying annually lowers the effective monthly cost compared with paying month to month.
Save up to $105 when you switch and buy a new phone
New Visible customers can save up to $105 through monthly service credits when they switch to Visible and purchase or finance an eligible phone at full retail price through Affirm.
The credits are applied over 12 months, helping reduce the cost of your wireless service while you pay for your new device.
To qualify, you'll need to open a new line with Visible, activate an eligible device on a monthly Visible or Visible+ plan and maintain service throughout the 12-month promotional period.
The offer isn't available with Visible's annual plans, so compare the total savings before deciding which option is right for you.
Who should consider switching
Visible is a good fit for anyone looking to reduce a recurring monthly expense without sacrificing nationwide coverage.
Single-line users, retirees and people who prefer to buy a lower-cost phone outright instead of financing the latest model can often save the most by switching from a traditional postpaid plan.
Budget-conscious families might also find that multiple individual Visible plans cost less than a premium family plan with one of the major carriers, depending on their current provider.
If you're considering upgrading your device at the same time, Visible also accepts eligible phone trade-ins. Trading in your current device can help offset the cost of a new phone or reduce the amount you need to finance, making it an option worth exploring before you switch.
Trade in your old phone to lower the cost of upgrading
Start by getting an instant trade-in estimate online. Once you've selected an eligible new or pre-owned phone from Visible, you'll receive instructions for shipping in your old device.
Be sure to remove your SIM card, turn off Find My iPhone or your device's location services, and mail your phone within 21 days of placing your order.
After Visible verifies the device's condition, your trade-in value will be refunded to your original payment method or issued as a prepaid gift card if a refund can't be processed.
When a traditional carrier may still make sense
That said, Visible isn't the best choice for everyone. If you travel internationally on a regular basis, rely on extensive in-store customer support or prefer bundled perks such as streaming subscriptions and device upgrade programs, a traditional carrier might offer more value.
Likewise, heavy data users in consistently congested areas might prefer the priority data and additional features offered by premium postpaid plans.
Ways to save even more with Visible
Visible's low monthly pricing is only part of the value. If you're willing to pay annually, you'll lock in the lowest effective monthly rate while simplifying your phone bill with taxes and fees already included.
If you plan to replace your phone, Visible accepts eligible trade-ins that can be applied toward the cost of a new device. Existing customers can also save through the carrier's referral program and finance eligible phones in monthly installments if they prefer not to pay the full purchase price up front.
For anyone trying to reduce recurring expenses, switching to a lower-cost wireless plan can be one of the easiest ways to save money. Before renewing your current plan, compare what you're paying today with what a prepaid carrier such as Visible offers.
Even if you ultimately stay with your current provider, knowing your options could help you negotiate a better deal or find a plan that's a better fit for your needs.
