A Cabinet that looks like America? Seems so. MSNBC's First Read takes a numerical look at Obama's now-filled out Cabinet -- everything from the number of women (five) and number of Westerners (three) to the number of serious basketball players (four, the perfect number for the president-elect to join and field a team.) Particularly cool, though, is that those who attended public universities outnumber the Ivy Leaguers eight to seven.
Although he has a few other crucial jobs to fill, this is the earliest that a president has picked his Cabinet in 40 years, since Richard Nixon in 1968, And Obama certainly has kept his promise to make sure he hears divergent points of view. The picks he is announcing today for secretary of Labor and as Trade Rep have very different views about the benefits and potential harm of free trade.
