I am the Senior Investing Editor at Kiplinger.com, having joined the publication in April 2021. I have over a decade of experience writing about the stock market and have covered corporate earnings reports and stock reactions over that time frame. I find corporate earnings to be so important because they allow investors a closer look into the strength of a company's fundamentals and how these may impact its share price down the road.

I am the former managing editor and chief investment strategist of Utility Forecaster, which was named one of "10 investment newsletters to read besides Buffett's" in 2015. Earnings calendar spotlight: Alphabet
Alphabet (GOOGL) is the first of the Magnificent 7 stocks to grace the earnings calendar. The search engine giant is scheduled to release its Q2 numbers after Wednesday's close.
"The setup for Alphabet is attractive, and strong advertising results could be a catalyst for shares as investors continue to weigh the risk of generative AI to the search business and potential regulatory headwinds," says Wedbush analyst Scott Devitt (Outperform, the equivalent of Buy).
While Devitt admits that uncertainty has grown due to competition for both Search and YouTube, he sees "greater opportunity for upside to second-half estimates as second-quarter expectations remain achievable."
As a group, analysts forecast earnings of $2.17 per share for Alphabet's second quarter, up 14.8% from the year prior. Revenue is expected to arrive at $93.7 billion (+10.6% YoY).
Earnings calendar spotlight: Tesla
Tesla (TSLA) will also unveil its second-quarter results after Thursday's close. It's been a rough stretch for the electric vehicle maker amid growing unrest surrounding CEO Elon Musk's extracurricular activities – most recently, his plan to start a new political party.
"Tesla is heading into one of the most important stages of its growth cycle with the autonomous and robotics future now on the doorstep and cannot have Musk spending more and more time creating a political party which will require countless time, energy, and political capital," says Wedbush analyst Dan Ives (Outperform).
The analyst adds that Tesla, which he views as one of "the best physical AI companies in the world," needs Musk's focus for at least the next five years "given how important of a role" the executive will play in the company's autonomous and robotics future.
As for Tesla's Q2 results, Wall Street got a glimpse of what's to come following the release of the EV company's delivery numbers earlier this month. In the three months ending June 30, Tesla produced 410,244 vehicles and delivered 384,122 vehicles, representing year-over-year declines of 0.1% and 13.5%, respectively.
As for its top and bottom lines, analysts expect earnings of 44 cents per share (-15.4% YoY) on revenue of $22.7 billion (-11% YoY).
