Our latest version of the Kiplinger 25 (The 25 Best Mutual Funds) included four top-notch funds that had reopened in the previous year: Fidelity Contrafund (symbol FCNTX), Fidelity Low-Priced Stock (FLPSX), T. Rowe Price Mid-Cap Growth (RPMGX) and T. Rowe Price Small-Cap Value (PRSVX).
The gap between those four and the seven funds featured in the accompanying article is narrow. The rationale for elevating the four funds to the Kiplinger 25 is that you can't turn down the opportunity when you get the chance to entrust your money to such outstanding and seasoned managers as Will Danoff (Contrafund), Joel Tillinghast (Low-Priced Stock), Brian Berghuis (Mid-Cap Growth) and Preston Athey (Small-Cap Value), especially when their services are available through no-load funds with relatively modest expense ratios.
