The U.S. Government tracks the average price increases (and occasional decreases) of basic consumer products we must buy to live day by day, called a consumer price index (CPI). These consumer prices include housing costs (including the energy for heating and cooling), transportation, food, apparrel and such. However, as individuals, our spending on these items varies according to where and how we live.
