Best Black Friday Deals at Walmart

Most of the retailer's biggest bargains will be available online as well as in stores beginning on Thanksgiving.

Walmart is busting out of the doorbuster mentality. In the not-so-distant past, retailers would mark down small quantities of hot items to draw crowds to stores on Black Friday. Bargain-hunters would line up before dawn for a shot to buy the latest toy or electronic at a deep discount. Many went home disappointed when supplies ran out early.

This holiday season, Walmart says it’s stocking more of the merchandise shoppers will want, based on customer feedback and sales data, to avoid doorbuster disappointment. In addition, the retailer is launching its Black Friday sale early, and it’s putting the majority of its deals online. Black Friday sale items will be available at Walmart.com beginning Thursday at 12:01 a.m. Pacific time (3 a.m. ET), hours before brick-and-mortar stores open at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.

We talked with several shopping experts to find out which items are attractively priced during Walmart's Black Friday sale. Here are five deals to consider:

Apple iPad Mini 2 16GB, $199: Marked down $70, DealNews.com chose Walmart's sale on this iPad Mini 2 as one of the best Black Friday tablet deals. Walmart is one of the top big-box retailers for finding Black Friday deals on electronics, says Benjamin K. Glaser, features editor for DealNews. This tablet comes with iSight, FaceTime, an HD camera, built-in WiFi and has a battery life of up to 10 hours.

Black Friday 2015

"Despicable Me" Minion Dave Talking Figure, $20: Disney's "Despicable Me" action figures are a coveted toy this year among kids age 4 and up, according to TheToyInsider.com's 2015 Hot Holiday Toy Guide. You can find this talking version, which has 55 sayings and adjustable limbs, for sale on Black Friday for $15 to $20 cheaper than similar "Despicable Me" interactive action figures available at Walmart.

Dyson DC33 Multi-Floor Bagless Upright Vacuum, $197: At Walmart, you'll see deep discounts on Dyson-brand vacuums and small appliances, says Kristin Cook, managing editor of BensBargains.com. This Dyson vacuum is regularly priced at $269 -- that's about a 25% savings. It's portable, cleans carpet, tile, vinyl and wood surfaces, and comes with a lifetime HEPA filter.

Fitbit Flex Wristband, $59: Katrina Chan, shopping manager at NerdWallet.com, recommends Walmart's Black Friday sale on the Fitbit Flex wristband, which will be available online as a Thanksgiving Day doorbuster starting at 12:01 a.m. Pacific time. Originally $99, shoppers who purchase this item will get a 40% discount.

Samsung 40-Inch Class Smart HDTV, $298: Shoppers can find deeper discounts on 40- and 50-inch television sets at Walmart compared to other stores, says Howard Schaeffer, vice president of merchandising for Offers.com. However, he reminds shoppers that you get what you pay for, so it might be wise to pay an extra $100 for a name-brand set that's on sale versus an off-brand version. Schaeffer recommends this Samsung television (regular price: $378), which comes with built-in WiFi that allows you to stream video directly through your TV.
