I am the Senior Investing Editor at Kiplinger.com, having joined the publication in April 2021. I have over a decade of experience writing about the stock market and have covered corporate earnings reports and stock reactions over that time frame. I find corporate earnings to be so important because they allow investors a closer look into the strength of a company's fundamentals and how these may impact its share price down the road.

I am the former managing editor and chief investment strategist of Utility Forecaster, which was named one of "10 investment newsletters to read besides Buffett's" in 2015. A graduate of the University of California, San Diego, and the Villanova University School of Law, and a former stockbroker, I have been working in financial media for more than 20 years.

Earnings calendar recap: Home Depot
Home Depot (HD) led consumer discretionary stocks higher after the big-box retailer reported expectations-beating fourth-quarter results before the opening bell on Tuesday.
The Depot posted earnings of $2.58 per share (-14.6% year over year) on revenue of $38.2 billion (-3.8% YoY) vs a Wall Street consensus forecast for EPS of $2.53 on revenue of $38.1 billion.
"Our results were largely in-line with our expectations," CEO Ted Decker said, "reflecting the lack of storm activity in the third quarter and ongoing consumer uncertainty and pressure in housing."
Management guided to 2026 EPS growth of 0% to 4% on sales growth of 2.5% to 4.5%, and the board approved a 1.3% increase in what will be Home Depot's 156th consecutive quarterly dividend.
"Strong same store sales drove a big EPS beat for Home Depot this past quarter," Zacks Investment Management Chief Market Strategist Brian Mulberry writes.
Mulberry notes that we've seen no major storms since Hurricane Helene in September 2024 and that home building "has seemingly slowed over the past quarter." Those factors make fourth-quarter numbers "that much more impressive as Home Depot continues to gain market share."

Earnings calendar recap: Nvidia
Nvidia (NVDA) reported fiscal 2026 fourth-quarter earnings of $1.62 per share (+82.0% year over year) on revenue of $68.1 billion (+73.2% YoY) and guided to fiscal 2027 first-quarter revenue of $78.0 billion, plus or minus 2%, as the leader of the AI boom topped Wall Street expectations for all three metrics once more.
Revenue for the critical data center segment was up 75.1% to $62.3 billion, driven by "major platform shifts," including accelerated computing and artificial intelligence. Gross profit margin was 75.2% vs a forecast of 75.0%.
Data Center revenue for the fourth quarter was a record $62.3 billion, up 75% from a year ago and up 22% sequentially, driven by the major platform shifts – accelerated computing and AI.
"For the fourth quarter," Nvidia said (pdf), "hyperscaler revenue increased and remained our largest customer category at slightly over 50% of data center revenue, while growth was led by the rest of our data center customers as revenue diversified."
Wedbush analyst Matt Bryson reiterated his Outperform (Buy) rating and raised his 12-month target price on NVDA from $230 to $300 following the earnings announcement and the conference call.
"While the fiscal fourth-quarter acceleration in data carter sales (both Q/Q and Y/Y) was impressive given the law of large numbers," Bryson wrote, "we'd call out fiscal 2027 first-quarter sales guidance ($78B) in particular as being the highlight of the call, given we believe this outlook was well in excess of prior buy-side expectations."
Bryson noted that supply chain commitments have risen to $95.2 billion from $50.3 billion in the prior, explaining that management now has visibility into calendar 2027.
"This result fits with our view that NVDA was early in addressing areas of constraint (e.g. memory)," the analyst concluded, "a setup that we believe creates a competitive moat that should last through at least this calendar year."

Earnings calendar spotlight: CoreWeave
CoreWeave (CRWV) is scheduled to report fourth-quarter earnings after the closing bell on Thursday. The CoreWeave IPO was one of the hottest initial public offerings of 2025.
Wall Street expects management to report a loss of 68 cents per share on revenue of $1.53 billion.
As of late January, the AI-centric cloud-computing outfit is benefitting from an expanded partnership with Nvidia that includes a fresh $2 billion investment "to accelerate the buildout of more than 5 gigawatts of AI factories by 2030 to advance AI adoption at global scale."
"The deal provides another validation of CoreWeave’s proprietary software stack," Stifel analyst Ruben Roy writes, "positioning it as the exemplar cloud for bleeding-edge Blackwell and Rubin architectures."
According to Roy, "This software-centric shift enables high-margin international and sovereign AI opportunities into the next decade, allowing CoreWeave to operate data centers independently for global entities seeking data residency."
Roy has a Hold rating and a $120 12-month target price for CRWV stock.
