I am the Senior Investing Editor at Kiplinger.com, having joined the publication in April 2021. I have over a decade of experience writing about the stock market and have covered corporate earnings reports and stock reactions over that time frame. I find corporate earnings to be so important because they allow investors a closer look into the strength of a company's fundamentals and how these may impact its share price down the road.

I am the former managing editor and chief investment strategist of Utility Forecaster, which was named one of "10 investment newsletters to read besides Buffett's" in 2015. A graduate of the University of California, San Diego, and the Villanova University School of Law, and a former stockbroker, I have been working in financial media for more than 20 years.

Earnings calendar spotlight: Nvidia
Nvidia (NVDA) may not have the fate of the planet resting on its fiscal 2026 third-quarter results. Nor does the future of humankind lie in CEO Jensen Huang's conference-call soothings.
But investors, traders and speculators will read and listen closely when the chipmaker reports earnings after Wednesday's closing bell, looking for clarity on whether we're in an AI bubble.
Wall Street expects to see earnings of $1.23 per share (+51.9% year over year) on revenue of $54.59 billion (+55.6% YoY). The consensus would also like to see fourth-quarter guidance for EPS of $1.37 on revenue of $59.60 billion.
In a November 12 note, Wedbush analysts highlighted a Wall Street Journal report suggesting China's artificial intelligence (AI) ambitions are currently stunted by a shortage of silicon and other production limitations at partially state-owned foundry Semiconductor Manufacturing International (SMIC).
Wedbush notes that "a less competitive China would seemingly create more opportunities for both Western silicon (NVDA, AMD, etc.) and limit the threat countries outside China rely on Chinese AI technology."
Analysts add that Nvidia supplier Foxconn (FXCOF) guided for year-over-year revenue growth of 15% for the fourth quarter, supported by AI rack shipments that are expected to rise by "high double digits."
"We view this outlook as generally positive for our hardware universe and NVDA in particular," Wedbush explains, "with our own conversations suggesting the world's largest silicon maker appears very bullish on the ramp of rack builds through at least 2026."
Wedbush analyst Matt Bryson rates the semiconductor stock Overweight (or Buy), with a 12-month target price of $210, implied upside of 8.4% from NVDA's November 12 closing price of $193.80.

Thursday (11/20)
Earnings calendar spotlight: Walmart
Walmart (WMT) will offer perspective on things more prosaic than AI revolutions, such as how American consumers are spending money to feed and clothe themselves amid persistent signs of rising economic distress. It will also shed light on uncertainty exacerbated by the longest government shutdown in U.S. history.
Walmart is both the biggest retailer and the biggest private employer in the world. We'll see what its numbers and its managers say when the company unveils its fiscal 2026 third-quarter earnings before Thursday's opening bell.
Wall Street expects EPS of 60 cents (+3.4% YoY) on revenue of $175.14 billion (+4.3% YoY). Jefferies analyst Corey Tarlowe sees 61 cents per share: "While management may sound cautious given macro risks, results should beat expectations."
In a November 11 note, Tarlowe forecast U.S. comparable sales growth of 4.4% vs 3.9% for the consensus, "supported by balanced ticket and traffic gains," with Sam's Club growth of 5.0% "driven by resilient traffic and member engagement."
The analyst also expects Walmart management to reiterate full-year guidance for EPS of $2.52 to $2.62 on sales growth of 3.75% to 4.75%. Tarlowe has a Buy rating on the large-cap stock with a 12-month target price of $120, implied upside of 16% based on WMT's November 11 closing price.
