I am the Senior Investing Editor at Kiplinger.com, having joined the publication in April 2021. I have over a decade of experience writing about the stock market and have covered corporate earnings reports and stock reactions over that time frame. I find corporate earnings to be so important because they allow investors a closer look into the strength of a company's fundamentals and how these may impact its share price down the road.

I am the former managing editor and chief investment strategist of Utility Forecaster, which was named one of "10 investment newsletters to read besides Buffett's" in 2015. Earnings calendar preview: Salesforce
Salesforce (CRM) will offer on-the-ground perspective on the AI revolution as well as recent tech M&A activity when management reports fiscal 2026 third-quarter results after Wednesday's closing bell. Wall Street expects the software maker to report earnings of $2.86 per share on revenue of $10.27 billion. CRM reported EPS of $2.44 on revenue of $9.44 billion a year ago.
Mizuho Americas analyst Gregg Moskowitz reiterated his Outperform, or Buy, rating and his $340 12-month target price after Salesforce completed the $8.3 billion acquisition of Informatica earlier than expected on November 18. CRM had targeted an early fiscal 2027 close.
As Moskowitz notes, "CRM also continues to expect Informatica accretion to non-GAAP Operating Margin and EPS within the first 12 months post-close, which compares to two years initially." The analyst sees "interesting strategic potential" for Salesforce to offer customers a data bundle including Agentforce as well as Data 360, MuleSoft and Informatica.
"More broadly," he concludes, "we reiterate our view that CY26 should be a much better year for CRM than CY25, with legitimate potential for organic re-acceleration."

Earnings calendar preview: Dollar General
Dollar General (DG) has rallied nearly 50% so far this year, outperforming the S&P 500 by about 30 percentage points. The consumer staples stock has benefited from rising uncertainty and falling consumer sentiment.
The discount retailer will report its fiscal third-quarter results ahead of Thursday's open and Wall Street expects EPS of 93 cents on revenue of $10.6 billion. Dollar General posted EPS of 89 cents on revenue of $10.2 billion a year ago.
Jefferies analyst Steven DeSanctis identified DG as one of 17 small- and mid-cap stocks with accelerating sales and earnings growth profiles in a November 24 note. DeSanctis's colleague Corey Tarlowe rates DG stock Buy with a $130 12-month target price.
"With earnings and sales set to broaden in 2026, more stocks should see accelerating growth and sales next year," DeSanctis writes, "and should get rewarded." DG is one of 17 stocks that's "not too expensive or cheap" based on Jefferies's growth-at-a-reasonable-price factor.
The analyst notes that the "lower-quality, growth-at-any-price" trade took it on the chin in November and that momentum lagged significantly, with retail stocks falling 22% before a recent Thanksgiving Rally driven by renewed hope for lower interest rates.
