Best Home Depot Black Friday Doorbusters and Deals 2018

Home Depot is closed on Thanksgiving, but look for deep discounts on appliances on Black Friday both in-store and online.

They might not stock big-screen TVs or the latest gadgets, but your favorite fixer-upper stores including Home Depot still want a piece of the Black Friday action. They’ve been coyly at this game for many years, and get your attention early in the fall, while you’re still mowing the grass. Yeah, you saw that gigantic Grinch Who Stole Christmas lawn decoration and were green with envy back in the heady days of late September.

Deals experts say there’s a method to their madness, which can translate to big Black Friday savings for you. Home Depot is closed on Thanksgiving Day, but its full Black Friday ad will drop the day before Thanksgiving to allow time to scope out potential purchases. Stores open their doors early on the morning of Black Friday (times vary by location), and the deepest Black Friday deals on HomeDepot.com will go online at 6 a.m. ET on Black Friday. Don't be surprised if the hottest items sell out before the weekend. You'll score a $5 off coupon by going to the website now to sign up for email or text alerts on upcoming sales.

“While Home Depot will be offering sales both in-store and online, some deals will be exclusively in-store on Black Friday,” says True Trae shopping expert Trae Bodge.

Meantime, ahead of the full reveal of Home Depot's Black Friday ad, the home-improvement chain is already running pre-Black Friday specials. For example, we recently saw a Ryobi cordless combo kit that included a drill, impact driver, circular saw, reciprocating saw, impact wrench, bag, batteries and charger all for $259 (regular $497). Many appliances have already been marked down including a GE high-efficiency, front-loading washer and matching electric dryer with steam selling for $598 apiece (regular $999 each). As for Black Friday itself, here's what the experts say will likely be discounted the most based on past experience.

Appliances tend to be one of the smartest Black Friday buys at Home Depot," says Sarah Hollenbeck of the deals website BlackFriday.com. Look for an offer of an extra $500 off when you buy six or more appliances -- handy if you're renovating a kitchen -- or an extra $60 off when you buy two appliances. Also expect attractive discounts on smart doorbells and other home-security items.

If you still haven’t dressed up your abode for the holidays, Black Friday is the time to find the bling at Home Depot.

“Compared to Amazon, Home Depot has better prices on string lights and more options,” says deals expert Andrea Woroch. “Outdoor decor is also a good deal at Home Depot. You can save about $15 on this Disney Mickey/Minnie blow-up set at Home Depot versus Amazon.com.”

But experts warns off on some holiday décor. “You can find better deals on ornaments and indoor decor at discount retailers like TJMaxx and HomeGoods,” Woroch says. Bodge, of True Trae, adds that while Black Friday prices will be good on some holiday décor, the discounts will likely deepen in December.

Wondering whether to favor Home Depot over Black Friday deals at Lowe's? Both big-box retailers will be offering similar but not necessarily identical Black Friday markdowns, so the trick is to scout both, if you can, for the specific items you want.

“When it comes to Home Depot and Lowe’s, I think you will find that these will have similar examples and shopping strategies,” says Bodge. “So it all comes down to comparison-shopping when you’re ready to make a holiday purchase to see which one has the better deal at the moment. In this case, I recommend using a shopping app like Flipp to get access to store circulars and deals all on your phone to quickly compare store offers and see which store has the best holiday deals on the items you want to buy.”
