In case you missed it, there's a great debate raging over hedge funds -- sparked by a column written by Kiplinger.com columnist Steve Goldberg. Goldberg argues that these barely regulated pools of money deserve far more blame for the financial meltdown than they've received -- and should be regulated out of existence. Several readers agreed with him, but many claimed that hedge funds didn't deserve Goldberg's bashing.
In Ban Hedge Funds?, Goldberg says hedge funds remain a huge cause of volatility in the financial markets because, in part, they use high levels of leverage to make huge profits. However, one reader said hedge funds "provided the liquidity that helped the markets from collapsing further."
