David Bromelkamp
David Bromelkamp is an investor advocate, author and founder of AdvisorSmart®, established in 2018 to help individual investors make smarter decisions about finding, evaluating and compensating financial advisors. Sometimes referred to as the "Jerry Maguire of Financial Advice," he is an advocate for objective financial advice and for greater consumer understanding of how financial advisors are paid, the conflicts that compensation arrangements can create and the alternatives available to investors.
His first book, AdvisorSmart for the Individual Investor: Your Guide to Selecting a Financial Advisor to Get Better Financial Advice, was published in April 2025 to help consumers navigate the often-confusing financial advice marketplace and make more informed decisions when selecting and retaining a financial advisor.
Bromelkamp is writing his second book, FeeSmart for the Individual Investor: How Savvy Investors Avoid Overpaying for Financial Advice, which focuses on one of the most overlooked questions in personal finance: How much should investors pay for financial advice — and what exactly should they receive for that price?
He is also the author of the Mister Fiduciary blog, which explores the legal, ethical and moral dimensions of fiduciary relationships and what it means for financial professionals to deliver great financial advice while placing their clients' interests first.
Through his Kiplinger Adviser Intel articles, Bromelkamp writes for individual investors about finding objective financial advice, understanding advisor compensation, identifying conflicts of interest, evaluating advisory fees and finding practical ways to obtain better financial advice at a fair price.
