Get Free Doughnuts on National Donut Day

Krispy Kreme, Tim Hortons and Dunkin' Donuts are among those giving away sweet treats on Friday, June 7.

There's a holiday for practically everything: National Flashlight Day, Dress Up Your Pet Day, Toasted Marshmallow Day and even National Kazoo Day. I don't suspect you'll be celebrating all the wacky holidays that there are throughout the year, but there is one on June 7 that you might want to mark on your calendar. It's National Donut Day, held the first Friday of June, and several doughnut shops will be offering these delicious little goodies for free.

National Donut Day began in 1938 when The Salvation Army in Chicago held a fundraiser to help those in need during the Great Depression and to commemorate the work of its female volunteers who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I. Through June 15, Entenmann's will donate $1 to The Salvation Army for every person who "likes" the Entenmann's Facebook page. The baked-goods company also is running a National Donut Day sweepstakes. You can enter through June 30 for a chance to win Entenmann's doughnuts for a year or other prizes.
