How to Retire Happy

  • Author: Stan Hinden
  • Publisher: McGraw-Hill Professional Publishing, 288 pages

This exceptionally well-written primer, from the former retirement writer for the Washington Post, is in its fourth edition. Hinden completed the first edition when he was 73 years old and was already retired in 2000. He was still at it at the ripe old age of 86, when the fourth edition came out in 2013. (He died on January 9, 2018, just short of his 91st birthday.) The result is a journal of sorts, a fresh and unfolding exploration of what he got right and what he thought he knew but didn’t. The material is a gift in the hands of Hinden, who could translate such mind-numbing concepts such as Social Security claiming strategies into clear, conversational prose. Valuable and entertaining. Both a New York Times and Washington Post Best Seller.
