Investment Writer

Kiplinger's Personal Finance, a national magazine that has been advising individuals for over 70 years, seeks a senior investment writer.

The writer who is hired for this position should have at least five years of experience writing about investments, including general market conditions and forecasts as well as specific stocks, bonds, mutual funds and exchange-traded funds, for magazines, newspapers, wire services or Web sites. We seek an individual who can write practical, easy-to-understand articles geared toward individual investors. Articles will appear both in our monthly magazine and on our Kiplinger.com Web site.

We prefer to hire a full-time employee who would work out of our Washington, D.C., headquarters, but we will consider a more flexible arrangement.

ASSOCIATE ONLINE EDITOR

The Kiplinger Washington Editors, one of America’s most respected publishers of business-forecasting and personal-finance guidance, seeks a talented digital content producer for Kiplinger.com. The ideal candidate will have at least 2-3 years of experience in digital media, with familiarity with (if not fluency in) core personal-finance issues such as retirement planning, taxes and investing. Our new team member will share our passion for helping readers to make and save money, and will shape valuable, engaging content every day for our growing, award-winning website.

This entry-level position is a great opportunity to burnish your skills with digital content production, learn the basics of front-end web design, contribute to the evolution of a multimedia newsroom, and learn about all aspects of a profitable digital publishing operation.

DUTIES WILL INCLUDE

  • production of digital content, including articles, slide shows, quizzes, infographics and more. This task will include important but minimal copywriting duties, with an eye toward search-engine optimization (SEO) and reader engagement.
  • support for Kiplinger’s engagement on social-media platforms, such as Facebook and Twitter
  • occasional reporting and writing of original bylined material, including articles, slide shows and quizzes

REQUIREMENTS

Applicants should have a B.A. in Journalism or related field and at least 2-3 years of experience in a digital publishing environment. Familiarity with basic HTML, PhotoShop and digital content management systems is a must. The ideal applicant also will be familiar with basic social media best practices and scheduling/monitoring tools such as HootSuite, Naytev, Sprinklr, or SocialFlow. Must be able to work well as part of a team under deadline pressure.

We’re Looking for A Few Good Investing Writers and Reporters

Kiplinger.com is seeking experienced freelance writers to help bolster our daily offering of market/financial coverage. We want reporters, analysts, and well-versed stock pickers with a deep understanding of equities, bonds, and other investments, strong writing skills, and the ability to meet daily deadlines. At Kiplinger, we start with the expectation that our readers will act on our advice, and benefit from doing so.

Essential Functions:

  • Conceptualize high-quality editorial ideas that deliver actionable advice. Topicality is essential, being on the news is a plus.
  • Work cohesively with our online senior investing editor and the Kip.com internal team to execute day-to-day and overall strategies.
  • Interview fund managers, analysts, and other financial pros for insights and opinions that will help readers make investing decisions.
  • Write crisp, clear articles, with an emphasis on slide shows and quizzes.
  • Produce online content within Kiplinger.com’s content management system.

Desired Skill Sets:

  • A deep understanding of the financial markets, specifically as it pertains to analyzing stocks, bonds, funds and other investments.
  • A high comfort level with content management systems.
  • Ability to think qualitatively and strategically.
