Bigger is almost always better when it comes to a safety net for retirement. But when it comes to figuring out a place to retire, it’s clear that bigger isn’t always better – at least in terms of cost of living. While you might enjoy the bustling streets of New York City, as well as that higher paying salary, you might want to think twice before packing the bags for the Big Apple. The graphic below compares the cost of living in 40 of the most populous metropolitan areas that were included in Kiplinger’s List of Best Cities: It's All About Jobs. The cost of living index is based on 100 being the national average.
