Types of Disasters (2001-2010):
8 hurricanes, 5 tropical storms, severe weather
Estimated Insured Property Loss: $31.5 billion
Like Louisiana, Florida gets battered by hurricanes and tropical storms in late summer and early fall. The Sunshine State suffered through four major hurricanes (a record) in 2004 alone. It also has the highest number of tornadoes
per square mile of any state (Texas has more tornadoes annually, but it is much larger in land area), and central Florida is known as the lightning capital of the U.S. If you live in Florida,
we recommend that you do a thorough inventory of your insurance policies to make sure there aren’t any gaps in storm-related coverage.
