A to-the-point letter stating your grievance and suggesting a resolution is likely to get more action that raging rant. Download this sample from the Federal Citizen Information Center as a template for future complaints.

Callforaction.org -- Network of free consumer hotlines and online complaint form on which you can mark whether you want to talk the media about your complaint.

Consumeraffairs.com -- Source for consumer news, recalls, complaint forms, small claims guide, lemon law resources.

Council of Better Business Bureaus -- Provides links to local Better Business Bureaus, business reliability reports, charity reviews, dispute resolution reports and complaint reports.

Direct Marketing Association -- Provides guides on how to get your name off mailing and telemarketing lists, what you need to know about entering sweepstakes and what you need to know about shopping by mail order or telephone.

Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights -- Provides citizen advocacy, consumer news and an online complaint form.

National Association of the Remodeling Industry -- Mediates disputes involving their members.

National Consumers League -- Nation's oldest consumer organization; provides government, businesses and other organizations with the consumer's perspective on concerns including child labor, privacy, food safety and medication information.

National Foundation for Credit Counseling -- Provides links to credit counseling agencies and professionals across the country.

National Fraud Information Center -- Provides an online form to report suspected fraud and tips on how to recognize telemarketing and Internet fraud.

Public Citizen -- Nonprofit consumer advocacy organization that represents consumer interests in Congress, the executive branch and the courts.

U.S. PIRG -- Watchdog for the public interest in our nation's capital; has contact information for all state public interest research groups.

Privacy Rights Clearinghouse -- Provides consumer education; responds to specific privacy-related complaints from consumers, intercedes on their behalf and refers them to the proper organizations for further assistance.

Government agencies

Aviation Consumer Protection Division of the Department of Transportation -- Provides air travel consumer reports and information on how to file a complaint about airline service.

Consumer Product Safety Commission -- Provides recall and product safety news; has an online form to report an unsafe product.

Federal Citizen Information Center -- provides answers to questions about the federal government and everyday consumer issues, a consumer action handbook, consumer news, recall infomation, a listing of the latest scams and online forms for filing complaints.

Federal Trade Commission -- Provides publications with advice on avoiding scams and rip-offs, as well as tips on other consumer topics; also has an online complaint form.

Internet Crime Complaint Center -- Partnership between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the National White Collar Crime Center; receives complaints about cyber crime.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration -- Provides vehicle crash test and rollover ratings; receives complaints about vehicles and child car seats.

U.S. Postal Inspection Service -- Form to submit a mail fraud report, information on mail fraud schemes and information on how to get off mailing lists.
