Your question about amended tax returns is a good one, and one I hear often. I've consulted many CPAs, tax lawyers and other tax pros . . . as well as folks at the IRS on this topic. They all say that amended returns do not trigger audits.
Do amended tax returns get extra scrutiny? Well, yes, because it's a second shot the IRS has to review part of your return. But if you have a legitimate error to correct, go for it.
