Q: How do I deduct sales taxes if I don't itemize? -- Henry

Kevin Answers:

Sorry, but you can't deduct sales taxes unless you itemize.

It substitutes for the state income tax deduction on Schedule A, but only for itemizers. If you claim the standard deduction, you can't deduct sales taxes.
