Everyone's talking about Prince William's engagement to Kate Middleton. In my family, we're talking about another Will's engagement -- my cousin. We couldn't be more excited that he finally asked his long-time girlfriend to marry him.

I'm sure the two Wills won't be the only ones popping the question over the holiday season. So I wanted to share a blog post from David Weliver at Money Under 30, How Much Should You Spend on an Engagement Ring? Weliver urges men not to heed the old advice that you should spend two months' salary on an engagement ring, especially if it forces you to go into debt. "The less debt you bring into a marriage, the better," he writes. We at Kiplinger's couldn't agree more (see Six Money Mistakes of Newlyweds).
