Discounts on apparel and home goods will be some of the best this year, according to dealnews.com, which analyzes deals from past years to predict what will be discounted this year. For clothing, expect to see coupons or promotional codes that take up to 50% off already discounted items.

There are some Memorial Day sales worth noting. Sears is offering up to 30% off Kenmore appliances (and 15% off other brands), 50% to 60% off mattresses and up to 60% off apparel. Several other retailers, such as Best Buy and Home Depot, also will be marking down prices on appliances. If you live in Texas, you can take advantage of a sales-tax holiday May 26-28 on Energy Star appliances to save even more money.

REI claims to be having its biggest sale of the year, with up to 30% off camping gear and clothing. Kmart is marking down furniture 50%. Macy's is taking an extra 10% off on already marked down indoor furniture, patio furniture and mattresses.

Expect to see plenty of sales on patio furniture, lawn equipment and grills. But the real discounts on these items will appear later in the summer, according to dealnews.com. Also, don't expect to see great deals on electronics.
