Another Chance at Holiday Deals

Cameron Huddleston

Avoid high shipping costs by shopping on Free Shipping Day.

If you skipped Black Friday and were too busy working on Cyber Monday to surf the Web for deals, you still have a chance to save money on holiday gifts when you shop online. At least 500 merchants are expected to offer free shipping December 17 on items purchased through their sites and guaranteed delivery by Christmas Eve.

Luke Knowles, founder of coupon site FreeShipping.org, came up with the idea for Free Shipping Day in December 2008, and more than 250 retailers participated. This year, 454 merchants -- including American Eagle Outfitters, JCPenney and Toys "R" Us, already have signed up for the second annual Free Shipping Day. Freeshippingday.com has the complete list of participating merchants.

So all you last-minute shoppers, mark this day on your calendars. And check out our guide to smart holiday spending for gift ideas, Web sites to help you find deals and money-saving tips.
