Resources If You're Laid Off
General Motors' bankruptcy not only represents a major blow to an
American icon, but it also means tens of thousands more people will be out
of work. Michigan has been particularly hard hit, but one reader from
that state wrote June 1 to thank us for the great job-search resources
Kiplinger.com columnist Marty Nemko provided recently in Land a
Government Job Now.
Columnist Kim Lankford also provides lots of great information to help people who have been laid off. She explains what you need to know about unemployment benefits. She goes into detail about how the stimulus helps laid-off workers. Kim also writes that workers who have lost their jobs can now receive a subsidy to help offset costly COBRA health-care coverage and that those with health savings accounts can keep their money even after they lose their job.
