Before joining Kiplinger's, she worked as a correspondent for the Voice of America in Tokyo and Hong Kong. She also covered business for CNBC Asia. Amy began her career at CNN, working as a news writer and producer in New York, Atlanta and London.

She has written about personal finance for Time's Asian edition and the South China Morning Post.

Amy has a bachelor of arts degree in literature from Columbia University and a master of science degree in world economics from the London School of Economics.
